Sometimes... somethings are better left the way it is...

when you get to know someone better, it doesn't necessarily mean a good thing.

things about other person start to unravel and you wished maybe it was better left the way it was.

***

started work already & it's pretty fine.

Of course, still seeking greener pastures.

Yet suddenly I felt the urge to close down my blog.

If Weihao could find it so easily last time, I won't be surprise if my boss or potentials will too..

but all your taggings made me hold back that thought... *sweet*

Hehe.. remember them?

I did mention in my earlier post about them.

Yep, kindda miss them so I went back to their
website to check them out.

Well, let's just say...

I need some relieve from local cheeena-english-speaking boys & make a channel switch to American accented English spoken by Asian boys.

I dig that. But not always.

It's like eating bananas 24/7, and it happens to be my least favourite fruits. *blech*

Anyhow, they revamped their site, got a short film coming up.. "Break Up Back Up"

Top of that, they have a range of T-shirts... SO CUTEEEEEEE...

Left: I heart nice guys Right: Nice guy falling for you

SWEET.

CHEESECAKE OF THE YEAR

We couldn't help but fight over the Strawberry Cheesecake Ivan's maid made.

It was crazily delicious la!

Photobucket

Look at the three layers that were carefully defined.

Top Layer = Strawberry jelly
Second Layer = Cream Cheese
Third Layer = Digestive biscuit base

I'm never a fan of sweet stuff esp cakes & chocolates BUT this cheesecake is a STEAL..

I even 'seduced' his maid into giving me the recipe.

But seriously, it's so much work I would just buy the cake from her :)
SATURDAY NIGHT MOVIE

Spontaneous move to catch 27 Dresses after Winnie's wedding.

Ha.. with Dan's advice, we decided this might not be too bad afterall.

Frankly, if you went in without any expectation, probably it would have been fine.

Anyhow, the story is more like a wakeup call to each of us who have been too engross in work, crap, everyday nothings... to remind us it's time we do something proper for ourselves.

Well, it's a nice movie to just relax with...

Wise Facts of Life from an Old Man

Dad sent me an email on the good o'l man who is a self made billionaire - Warren Buffet.

Something interesting to share with the rest of you :)

There was a one hour interview on CNBC with Warren Buffet, the secondrichest man who has donated $31 billion to charity. Here are some veryinteresting aspects of his life:

1. He bought his first share of stock at age 11 and he now regrets that hestarted too late!

2. He bought a small farm at age 14 with savings from delivering newspapers.

3. He still lives in the same, small 3-bedroom house in midtown Omaha thathe bought after he got married 50 years ago. He says that he has everything he needs in that house. His house does not have a wall or a fence.

4. He drives his own car everywhere and does not have a driver or security people around him.

5. He never travels by private jet, although he owns the world's largest private jet company.

6. His company, Berkshire Hathaway, owns 63 companies. He writes only oneletter each year to the CEOs of these companies, giving them goals for theyear. He never holds meetings or calls them on a regular basis. He hasgiven his CEO's only two rules. Rule number 1: Do not lose any of yourshareholder's money. Rule number 2: Do not forget rule number 1.

7. He does not socialize with the high society crowd. His pastime after he gets home is to make himself some popcorn and watch television.

8. Bill Gates, the world's richest man, met him for the first time only 5years ago. Bill Gates did not think he had anything in common with WarrenBuffet. So, he had scheduled his meeting only for half hour. But whenGates met him, the meeting lasted for ten hours and Bill Gates became adevotee of Warren Buffet.

9. Warren Buffet does not carry a cell phone, nor has a computer on his desk.

.
.
.

His advice to young people: "Stay away from credit cards and invest inyourself and remember:

A. Money doesn't create man, but it is the man who created money.
B. Live your life as simple as you are.
C. Don't do what others say. Just listen to them, but do what makes you feel good.
D. Don't go on brand name. Wear those things in which you feel comfortable.
E. Don't waste your money on unnecessary things. Spend on those who really are in need.
F. After all, it's your life. Why give others the chance to rule your life?"

***

The last part was really timely and meaningful for me during my recent job hunt.

For whatever reasons i was discouraged at the fact that suddenly my ideals dissipated with the harsh realities of life and money.

Of course I began to lament that I wasn't born with a silver spoon and that some other people can become a boss of their own company at 27 with thanks to the parents they were born to.

How some theatre actress like Emma Yong can survive in the industry, partly because she didn't have to worry about money and she started young.

But a good talk with some friends made me realised that it's seriously my life and whether or not people around me are going to like what I'm doing, or suggest better jobs, they are not the one in it. I AM.

I can only give thanks that I do not have to carry the burden of supporting my parents because they are self sufficient and are still active members of the workforce.

Well, I'm starting work with I Theatre end of Jan as a Marketing & Publicity Manager & very much looking forward to how I can create opportunities for myself here.

Wish me the best! >.<

An article in yesterday’s ST caught my attention - “Lost in Translation No More”

It urges Beijing to come up with standardized English translations for outlandish-sounding dishes, in run-up to the Olympics.

Excerpts from the article cracked me up and I’m sure it does even for those who are non-effectively bilingual in Mandarin & English.

Imagine your Chinese friend enthusiastically explains the dish he has ordered for you

(In the most accented Chinese he begins)
“Todie, we are e-ting a few soomtuous dshirts specially for u!”

Well, let’s hear it!

“I have olered elbow vegetable cooks the wing, rich and powerful people fry, the American flag cooks the space person, explodes the vegetable meat to steam and the treasure fungus soaks the vegetables

Run, brother, Run! Why does this restaurant sound highly dangerous with the inanimate objects coming alive?

***

And really, I have seen it in China myself during the recent trip and have a few to share…

Scenario 1

Hm… maybe they wanted to translate 的 to ‘De’ but in the midst some smart alec screams,

“Hey, wai dunch we use the word ‘Dick’? both starts with 'D' and It looks licer with four lettas instead of two? Plus, my best flend is called Dick too, so we wun go rong with this word!”

Everyone shouts in agreement, slapping the guy in the back, commending him with such a brilliant idea.

***

Scenario 2

We saw this sign at Windows of the World in ShenZhen & initially we thought an alphabet dropped off..

Upon closer examination, all other signs were the same and ‘Maintenance’ was spelt correctly except with an awkard spacing in between…

Plus, the use of ‘quickly’ at the end makes the whole thing just laughable.
Mom asked me yesterday,

" Parents will forgive the mistakes their children make,

but why children cannot forgive parents for what they did wrong?

Who then, will forgive the parents?"

***

This question sound so familiar... similar to that of what I saw from Royston Tan's short film "Sons"...

yet I do not have an answer to it.

I love Sundays.... :)

Visited MGS old site at 11A Mount Sophia this afternoon for lunch.

I was in awe... very nice, quiet environment.

The classrooms are now turned into the offices of many creative organisations & even Singapore's game development studio, Mikoishi is housed there.

Mikoishi's the studio that created Dropcast? Ring a bell?

Anyway, lunch was at Recess - al fresco style.

Frankly, i think it's a bit pricey for a plate of pasta that is so-so & with a portion boys will whine.

But we all know sometimes, we pay for the right ambience as well (think Starbucks & Coffeebean)

But really, it's a very nice chill out place for brunch sessions..

Tea time was Rochor's Tou Hway opp Peace Centre.

Anyway, to get the sugar syrup soaked into your Tou Hway, you should break them into smaller pieces and now it has turned into what Ivan & Sam term it "Vomit".
Thanks Boys.
I really love this bowl of vomit.

Sometimes....

Ignorance is bliss.

The less you know, the more courage you have.

The more you have, the bigger the leap of faith.

It might be a blessing that I am such a bimbo sometimes.

I wished no one told me that my results could've gotten me a not-too-bad honours degree.

I wished no one made me feel so regretful about not checking properly & that I could've an excuse to stay in school for one more year.

Move on, girl.

Behind every dark cloud is a beautiful rainbow! ^_^

4 days since I stepped back home...

what have I been doing since?

God... I'm so terribly distracted by a simple Taiwan drama - 公主小妹.

3 more episodes to the end.

Thank God I made no resolutions to abstain from these silly dramas. Otherwise that would be the first damned resolution.

***

To XK and those who were so sweet to ask about my first day in school..

things cropped up on Chestnut Drive sec, so I probably still need to wait a while for things to finalise.. so I've been doing other stuff to keep busy.

***

Finally managed to catch up with CK for a gym session in the morning.

No aches yet & I felt i wasted my $ on it...

but thanks to Uncle Sam's reminder, we realised that with all the walking during my recent trip, it was a good training that an hour of gym was nothing compared to 7 days of walking.

girl, we need more rigorous stuff! :P

***

Sigh... I found only this afternoon why I've always avoided stampede Great Singapore Sale.

I popped by a closed door GAP sale to find my aunt & I was greeted with a swarm of clothes on the floor and crazy women swimming in the piles.

Look at the half buried women!

They were stepping & grabbing anything they can find.

Disgusting, can?

All I can hear was, "It's only $3! Just BUY la!"

The ugly side of human nature - GREED.

Really, women stocking up on bags of boxers. How many men are they feeding back home?

*urgh*

Weeee... I'm a tad too late but HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL!

I'm back from my grad trip and so refreshed, happy & aimlessly geared for 2008!

I've so much to share but need to get the pics sorted out first before blogging.. :P

A blessing from God that this trip was smooth, safe, tiring & exciting...

I flew to Hong Kong, train-ed to ShenZhen then to Guangzhou, Bus-ed to ZhuHai, walked to Macau & flew back to SINGAPORE.

Of all these places, I LOVE HONG KONG!!!!

Love Hong Kong for ...

the weather - 11 degrees C.

the language - Canton (nope I speak nothing of it)

the people - so handsome & pretty

the roads - fantastic for a roller-taxi/bus rides that can replace all rides at Ocean Park...

other than the standard of living, China cannot be compared to HongKong...

I am so going back there during winter again!
