My Mom . The Boy. The Fries.

Tuition was cancelled, and thank Goodness I found out only just before I got onto the bus.

Went back to find my mom and headed to Mac for lunch with her. While finishing up the piping hot fries, mom, being the usual commentator of what's happening in a particular place, alerted me to this little plump malay primary school boy.

We looked over and found him sitting alone with an empty apple pie box on the tray, staring across at the group of Secondary school boys who were munching away and making a din.

"He's hungry still," mom observed, "but I think he has no more money."

I sniggered. Not at the boy, but at how my mom likes to interpret the actions of others based on her own assumption.

The boy stood up went to the counter and disappeared for a while. He came back empty handed.
"See?" mom's still trying to prove her point.

"Aiya... then you offer our fries to him lor..."

Mom likes to talk about people whenever she goes out with us. And it makes me wonder why...

Suddenly, mom stretched her hand to her back, leaned forward to the Malay boy and asked in the her Chinese accented English..

"You hungry? Want to eat fries? You no money?" The boy looked at her, stunned for a while, could only managed a "Ya" and walked out of Mac sadly with his schoolbag.

He ran away...

What did you want to do?

A small packet of fries is only $1 right? I wanted to take my money out. But he ran away...

I thought you were trying to dig your backside... -_-

***

There you have it.. that's my mom. Felt like grabbing her cheeks to shake it like how I would to a cute baby. She's forever so cute. Orh^

Re-Connect 2007

The hippiest event is in town... *yeah right*.. not open to public. Only Diploma in Media Comm (DMC) graduates of class 2004, 2005, 2006 & 2007.

That's so cool.. and I happen to be a graduate of class 2004.

2 Mar 2007, 7pm. Singapore Poly Graduates' Guild (SPGG)

I am so looking forward to it! (no i'm not sounding sacarstic).

Frankly, I miss Poly. Life was so nice then. Simple. No books (self declared). Project work. Prize presentation. Crusade. Fun.

The class was small in size and we stuck together for 3 years.

From innocent --> bitchy --> adults. *Haha*

Life was simple then.

Inspiration FoUND!

Yeap, below is the product of my Inspiration! A script.

Ok, something to share with you guys cuz it's the first time I'm trying out script writing. No, I still hate writing. I'm a complete dork when it comes to writing - stories, articles, script, letters.... whatever!

So for my little humble work... enjoy :)

The Last Rose Standing

1. EXT PAVEMENT BESIDE ROAD DAY 1.

ISABELLE accidentally steps on a pink rose that was stuck in the grass beside the pavement. She bends down to pick it up, looks at it and then stuck in back into the grass and rushes off to class.

2. EXT OUTSIDE LECTURE HALL DAY 2.

DANIEL comes out of the lecture hall with his friends and heads to the vending machine. JEN looks up, sees DANIEL and friends and started nudging ISABELLE. Both girls look in the boys’ directions.

DANIEL
I will catch you guys later.

FRIEND 1
Sure. Do you need us to get anything from the canteen for you?

DANIEL
It’s alright. I brought something along.

DANIEL picks up the can of coffee from the vending machine, gives a quick wave at his friends and leaves in the opposite direction.

JEN
(Watches DANIEL disappears out of sight)
Where do you think he’s going?

ISABELLE
I don’t know, you’re such a nosey parker!

JEN
Aren’t you dying to know? Maybe he has a girlfriend and the sooner you know it, the sooner you can give up on him.

ISABELLE
I don’t think he has one to begin with . . . he’s always… alone

JEN sighs, shakes her head and turns back to her books.

ISABELLE stares thoughtfully in the direction which DANIEL went.

3. EXT PAVEMENT BESIDE ROAD DAY 3.

ISABELLE and JEN are walking along the pavement towards the bus stop. JEN sees a pink rose on the grass and stops to bend down to take a closer look at it.

JEN
Why is there a pink rose in the middle of nowhere?

ISABELLE
I saw the same one here on Monday.

JEN
This looks like a fresh rose. Look! There is a note attached to it.

Both girls bend down to have a closer look.

JEN
(Reads the note)
To my dearest Lizzy. Forever in my heart.

ISABELLE
Why would anyone throw a present here given by someone?

JEN
(Sniggering)
Maybe she hates the guy.

ISABELLE shrugs and stands to her feet.

JEN puts the rose back to where it originally was.

Both girls continue walking to the bus stop.

4. EXT VENDING MACHINE OUTSIDE LECTURE HALL DAY 4.

DANIEL slots a coin into the vending machine and quickly picks up the can of coffee. As he hurriedly runs down the stairs, he bumps into ISABELLE and JEN. His file drops onto the floor and notes fly out.

DANIEL
(Bends to pick up his notes)
I’m so sorry. Are you okay?

ISABELLE
(Looks up from the notes on the floor)
Yeah, I’m fine.

ISABELLE hands over the notes to DANIEL. DANIEL smiles at her and turns to walk away.

JEN
(Sighs)
Where is he always rushing to with that can of coffee?

Ignoring JEN, ISABELLE sees a photograph on the floor and picks it up.

ISABELLE’s reads what is at the back of the photograph. She looks up after a while, only to see him far away.

5. EXT PAVEMENT BESIDE ROAD DAY 5.

DANIEL opens the can of coffee and puts it beside the pink rose.

DANIEL
(Smiles at the rose)
Just on time. Not one second late. Here’s your one-can-a-day coffee, dear.

DANIEL turns to search his file for something and becomes frantic when he can’t seem to find it.

ISABELLE stretches her hand, with the photograph, from behind him.

ISABELLE
Are you looking for this?

DANIEL looks up to see ISABELLE holding a piece of photograph. He takes it from her.

DANIEL’s POV, shows the back of the photograph with a note signed off by LIZZY.

DANIEL turns the photograph around and it shows him putting his hand around LIZZY.

ISABELLE
Is she your girlfriend? Lizzy?

6. EXT PAVEMENT BESIDE ROAD - FLASHBACK DAY 6.

DANIEL is holding LIZZY’s hand while walking along the pavement. DANIEL whips out a can of coffee from behind and hands it to LIZZY.

LIZZY
Thanks! You remembered! This can always save my day.

DANIEL
I know, otherwise you will start falling asleep in class!

LIZZY
You know me too well!

DANIEL
How about giving you something else that might even brighten your day? (Whips out a pink rose from behind him)

LIZZY
It’s beautiful! (Takes the rose and sniffs at it). So I will be expecting a pink rose and a can of coffee everyday?

DANIEL
Anything for my princess!

A bus zooms pass them. DANIEL grabs LIZZY hands and run across the road.

The can of coffee accidentally fell out of LIZZY’s hands and she pulls away from DANIEL and runs after the can which was rolling downhill, not noticing an oncoming car.

DANIEL turns around just in time to see the car zooming past him and straight for ELIZABETH.

7. EXT PAVEMENT BESIDE ROAD DAY 7.

DANIEL’s POV at the photograph. Tears drop onto the photograph.

DANIEL
If only I didn’t pull her across the road…

ISABELLE looks on at him, tears welling up in her eyes. She slowly puts her hand onto DANIEL’s shoulders.

A night of babel*

Night of Babel 1

Daniel's friend had some free tickets to the preview of Babel and we headed down to Lido at night to catch it - not knowing what I was in for.

Sign #1: Ivy said she read the reviews and they were pretty positive, plus it starrs Brad Pitt and Cate Blanchett.

Sign #2: While heading to Lido 4, Sam pointed at the tickets "M18: Sexual Scenes"

Sign #3: Opening title with text that reads "Foreign International Film"

Sign #4: Director - Alejandro Gonzalez Innaritu

Sign #5: The scenes in the film switched very abruptly

Sign #6: I looked at my watch, "11.25pm" - and I'm still sitting in the rocky Lido seat, shifting around in extreme discomfort.

Sign #7: Walked out of the cinema at 11.42pm - heavy headed

Conclusions of the 7 signs
.
.
.

it's an excellent arty farty film... -_-II

Frankly, the show requires one to bring their brains and stamina into the cinema. It's not one which you can laugh and forget about it because little meanings are locked in the different intertwined stories. Sam says it's something like Crash ( I haven't watched it ). But yes, it's about racial discrimination, alienation and discovery of human nature.

It's 24 hrs after watching the show and I'm beginning to like it.

***

Night of Babel 2

After the show, I offered to send Dan, Man & Sam home afterall these three boys stay pretty near my place and since I've to send Mr Sam home anyway...

Big mistake.

As if having ONE guy in the car wasn't enough... I offered my backseats to TWO other.

Ladies, next time if you're driving, don't even think about getting guys in the car (even if you may be F1 racer).. reason --> Guys never stop talking.

Yes. They say women nag alot. But this is the moment where guys UNKNOWINGLY nag. They call out the words like "Stop, brake, too fast, Wooo, Relax" and behave like complete WOMEN! Not only that these are the words that make lady drivers P.A.N.I.C.K and drive badly and then they get down the car complaining what a horrible driver she is.

Most encouraging words at the start of the drive... Manson asked " how come your back seatbelt doesn't lock?"

Girls, when someone ask that just as they step into ur car.. it's not a good sign. Immediately unlock ur car and send him out of the door.. *snigger* .. that is called M.I.S.T.R.U.S.T.

*yawn* Now, maybe now you know, MEN are equally WOMEN too. *yawn yawn yawn*

*Play Prod results out~!*

Yippie & Praise be to God for He is Good!

Dr Loon uploaded the results onto ivle this afternoon and I woke up just in time to catch 'first' hand news! I'm assigned to be one of the ten cast members, exact role is not specified yet cuz he said that he will go through the rehearsals and then determine which character we should play.

Play will be put up at National Museum Gallery Theatre end of Mar (Wk 11) and it will probably run for four days.

Thurs - preview
Fri - Gala night
Sat & Sun.

*so exciting*!! (Do the Dolly scream)

No, unlike what the guys think.. I don't want to be the cast for the fame. *what crappy thoughts*.. I just cannot imagine in a theatre production I have to do marketing aka getting sponsorships neither am I great with costumes or lights (yikes*)

Cast members have to go through tonnes of tiring rehearsals, late nights, overnights, line memorising yadayada to stand on stage to produce a good show and most importantly you must understand the character you are playing to do it well. Theatre studies is more than just plain acting. (for the uninformed Sci students who can roll their eyes and ask "How do you study theatre?")

But I'm sure people who love stage acting would agree that, being on stage and being under the lights, listening to the applause.. give me the mystical energy and confidence.

Teehee.. anyway... whatever decision it was, I'm sure it was of God's will.

No such thing as Platonic relationship?!?

Sam showed me this article in Monday's Life!

"Just friends? Oh yeah, right"
- most men don't think there is such a thing as a platonic relationship; they just don't want women to know that

I think this article is the answer I can probably give ker. Hm.. Uncle Sam was so smug that his point was reiterated by Jeremy Au Yong - yes, a male journalist.

"Men don't actually think that such a relationship is possible.
We kind of take it as a fairy tale we would like women to believe... ... for any good heterosexual friendship to blossom, guys need a little romantic spark to get it off the ground"

If this was true as I told Uncle Sam, he can be so assured because for all I can think of.. I barely have really close guy friends - some of which cut off all contact with me once they got hitched. Dang the men!

Funny thing is that, guys do not like their girls hanging out with a close guy friend they've known for a long time.

" Men see it as a big threat.
They know the 'friend' had a thing, or may still have a thing, for his girlfriend.
In his mind, he wouldn't mind this 'friend' being involved in a freak cement truck accident."

Men are so evil!!!

But then again, does it mean that now all the gentler species of the homosapiens have learnt this horrible truth, we should all steer clear from the meanies? Those creatures that harbour bad thoughts and evil intentions towards us?

I think it won't be fair to them.

In my opinion, girls, use your own judgment wisely. I've seen those who do not restrict their flirtatious prowess to lead these poor men in all the wrong directions and only to hurt them at the end. Those girls ought to be burnt to death - alive.

*Voyeurism*

NM2209 - Social Psychology of Media.
Lesson xx - Voyeurism.

I think I will be able to contribute alot for this topic. Afterall I just completed my 1001 friendster 'voyage'. Amazingly, everytime after touring around in friendster, I feel so completely drained, as if I talked to hundreds of people to know 'wazz up' in their life.

Pictures tell a thousand words. It's pretty interesting to just browse through... U learn who's dating who, who broke up with who, who's who friend... who went out with who... yada yada.. I'm so kaypo.

***
Play prod class today was... nice. Audition weren't as intimidating as I thought it was. One classmate said that he probably might choose me as cast. Hm.. my bubble's ain't getting any bigger. It always burst anyhow..

From now till Week 3.. it's just pip-pop-pip-pop!!

School * Bunnies * Cell

School just started.. hm.. I actually counted there is exactly 17 weeks before the exam period. The BIGTHING play will be on Wk 12 - end of Mar. I can't stop telling myself 'This too shall pass'. I seriously don't quite understand why I'm so scared of this semester.

I went for the first Play Production class by Dr Loon. He's nice. But when he starts getting serious, I will tense up so much I can barely manage a smile in class. There'll be a second audition tmr. I missed the first one. Only 10 people will be the chosen cast. I want to be in the cast, but I'm afraid I can't get it and will end up with production. And that could mean only one thing. I'm lousy. Dr Loon is using his own play a
nd I just have this feeling that he already knows best who fits into what. *scared*

Microbes class tmr. This is going to be tough. I suck big time with biology and without any introduction, the prof went straight into discussing the various kinds of staining methods and some horribly long terms of bacteria a
nd viruses. This is so not going to be fun.

***

went to Pet Safari at Vivo on tues.. *grin*!! I found two Japanese Spitz! A girl and a boy. Sooooo cute! Costing a bomb of S$2100 each, the shopkeeper still emphasize on the fact that I can pay by installment using credit card. Atrocious. I'm just keeping my fingers crossed that maybe one will run to my house by miracle and I will kidnap it! *muahaha*

I think rabbits are cute too!

These two little darlings are sitting in SPCA.. I wanna bring them home but mom will surely hit the roof and might kick these little bunnies out of the house. Maybe if I have a little garden next time I could let them hop around in it. =)

***
It's a new year and cell group is making some changes. There will be a new leader! *phew* I am so glad. Pray that the group will continue growing well and big!

Praying for my long thursday to be over...

F.F.F.F. - Fatty Fried Food on Friday *yikes!*

Urgh. Abstaining from fried food almost became one of my resolutions after my last post. (I was, afterall, formulating a list of resolutions at work today =) ) Until today.

1. A fillet-O-fish meal for dinner
(thank God I didn't buy the sinfully tempting Prosperity burger meal - i like black pepper & i'm learning to eat meat other than my usual, F.I.S.H)

2. Potato Wedges & Zesty Fish Bites @ Cafe Cartel
Because of that Sam & I had to take a cab home. No thanks to the incredibly bad service of Cafe Cartel @ PS. I think they should've never started implementing svc charge. It's just so difficult to get the waiters' attention.

1. We didn't get the warm water we indicated on the ordering form
2. Waved to one and requested for a warm and cold water instead
3. Came 10 mins later
4. Warm water was steaming hot, cold water was room temperature 'cold'.
5. The cup containing 'cold' water was full of oily fingerprints
6. Requested for another, similar dirty cup
7. Waited for 15mins for our bill to come after handing them the credit card.

Sigh.. Frankly, if I was really mean tonight, I would've insisted on not paying the service charge. But nevermind. I'm feeling good today.

***
After Sam got down the cab, the taxi uncle started talking to me.

Are you both Christians? Hear the way you both talk

*scratch*
I wonder how Christians sound like

Why Christians students don't like to go NTU...

*scratch scratch*

What you think of NUS & NTU...

*scratch scratch scratch*
fancy asking a NUS student that.. what do you think I would say?

Why did you choose to go NUS to do shared major between Comms & Theatre and not go to the very popular School of Comm in NTU?

*hm... because it's nearer my house?*plus... there's no theatre studies in NTU?*

He went on to promote NTU Accountancy course to me, just because his children are there... and he told me that only top 5% students get into School of Comm in NTU

*Uncle, not very difficult to get in what... *

Yes.. Very difficult one! Need A in General Paper

*but... I was offered a place there after the test and a round of interview.. not very difficult mah. Plus, I from poly... *

Huh?!? Really ar? Then you waste your chance.. so silly...

*uncle... just drop me there. Bye~!*

In between he tried to correct the way I pronounced Communications & stressed the importance of how a Comm student should pronounce correctly. Initially I thought he was trying to ask around so that he could help his children find out which Uni is better to enter. When I started discussing the ranking of the two Unis, he got more worked up and began defending NTU. *sigh* Uncle, you asking for my opinion ma~~~

Plus, I went through this kind of debate when choosing between NTU and NUS. Now that he's bringing it up again.. I'm not sure but I would seriously keep comments to myself unless it's a clueless student who is torn between the two choices I would share a more objective view.

Maybe that's how Taxi Uncles keep themselves awake in the night shift

getting into a debate with their passengers.

Little thoughts

I had a nightmare ... it felt so real, so scary, so hurtful, so lame and so impossible. *snigger*

So badly shaken, I was woken up at the end of the nightmare and it was 8 o'clock in the morning. I rang the person to check if my dream was real and then I fell back to sleep.

I've been having really stupid dreams lately. Concerning the people around me. And it's usually not good dreams. Sigh... is this how the start of my year is? I hope not.

***

Ivy was talking about some new year resolution thingy... I realised I haven't given it much thought. Frankly, I never really stuck to those I made in the past years.

***

School's starting in a few days. I'm left with one more module to bid for on Saturday. -_- Thank God I only need to live through this just one more year. What a crazy system. But then again, theatre modules are not as hot as psy or econs mods, thus I'm usually spared the stress during these periods.

***

YouTube.com is taking a freaking long time to load my show... *sob*
